The IML is one of the largest TB diagnostic centers in Europe, covering all conventional and molecular biological techniques of TB diagnostics. It is a WHO-Supranational-Reference-Laboratory and member of the SRL-network since 1994.
International projects are run in close partnership with the national TB programs of Nepal, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Bolivia. IML experts provide technical assistance with the planning of new medium and high risk TB laboratories, supervise construction works, support the partner laboratories by yearly on-site trainings, external quality assessment, and workshops. The WHO Global Laboratory Initiative, international NGOs and development organisations are our strategic partners.
Our research initiatives focus on resistance mechanisms and spread of resistant forms of TB in our partner countries, as well as the development and evaluation of new diagnostic tests.
