The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. The RUB is a vital institution in the Ruhr area, which was the European Capital of Culture for the year 2010.
Our Research focuses on membrane transport proteins, proteins involved in microbial photosynthesis and plant enzymes. We combine biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins (Visible and IR spectroscopy, DLS, SAXS) with the determination of their 3D-structure to gain deeper insights into protein function.
In this research we build on our expertise on protein biochemistry both of membrane and soluble proteins.
Our group for Protein Crystallography is well equipped with state of the art instruments for all stages of structure solution. Frequent access to the top synchrotron beamlines in Europe is availible.
The lab is located in the faculty of biology, which is one of the biggest in Germany, covering a wide range of research topics from biodiversity to structural biology.
