Doctoral Researcher/PhD
The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (50 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 50 %).
The research project aims to investigate mechanisms of epithelial tumor development and cancer cachexia using an ovarian tumor model in the fruit fly Drosophila and is funded by the von Behring-Röntgen-foundation.
Activities and responsibilities
- scientific services in research
- analysis of single cell RNA-sequencing datasets of tumor cells
- high resolution confocal light microscopy
- analysis of tumor and host metabolomes using mass spectrometry
- Drosophila genetics using state-of-the-art biochemical and cell biological methods
- molecular biology methods to investigate mRNA and protein expression in tissues
The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
Qualification profile
- MSc-degree or equivalent in Biology, Molecular Medicine, Biochemistry or a comparable field
- high motivation and interest on independent research
- capacity for teamwork
- a molecular biology skill set
- background in Drosophila genetics and light microscopy techniques is desirable
Disposition to own scientific qualification as part of the doctorate project on epithelial tumorigenesis and cancer cachexia is expected.
