The Riemer lab (
http://riemerlab.uni-koeln.de/) - located at the University of Cologne‘s Institute for Biochemistry - is looking for a
doctoral student starting from January 2025 (or later). Research in the Riemer laboratory focuses on different
aspects of redox and mitochondrial biology. We employ a combination of biochemical and cell biological methods. They range from
in vitro reconstitution of whole enzymatic cascades, different proteomics approaches to tackle specific redox changes and complex assembly processes, genetic screens using CRISPR-Cas technology to the application of genetically encoded sensors and engineering tools. As model systems, we mostly rely on mammalian cell culture, and baker’s yeast.

Activities and responsibilities
In the framework of your doctoral project, you will perform a wide variety of biochemical and cell biological experiments including unbiased omics experiments and approaches with genetically encoded fluorescent proteins to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying different aspects of redox signalling from and in mammalian mitochondria.
Qualification profile
We are looking for a doctoral candidate with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or biological chemistry. A Master‘s thesis or research experience on a topic related to the molecular mechanisms of cellular processes would be an advantage. We expect the ability to plan experiments, develop methods, carry out analyses and summarize results in English.

Salary will be 65% E13. The position will be initially for 2 years with the possibility for extension.
