Database and Web Developer (m/f/div)
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany, has two openings for database and web developers to start as soon as possible.
YOUR TASKS:
In close collaboration with scientific infrastructure and core IT, you will be developing and maintaining a growing number of web services and databases and repositories for internal web services as well as for the analysis of large-scale proteomics, metabolomics, FACS, and bioimaging data. Your tasks will include:
- Ensuring availability and security of these services, as well as the consistency and quality of the scientific data processing chain
- The support and training of users in proteomics, metabolomics, and bioimage data analysis (e.g. OMERO) and the web-based solutions
- Add new features to the existing database and web services, continuously improve their reliability, usability, and performance
- Proactively interact with facility staff and other stakeholders to identify challenges and solutions
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for a motivated team player with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic environment. Prior experience with Django and OMERO and project development in the context of an omics or bioimaging core facility is a strong plus.
Requirements
- University degree in bioinformatics, data sciences, data engineering, image analysis, or equivalent experience
- Strong programming skills (Python, PHP) with proven experience in software development
- Ability to self-organize and prioritize diverse tasks
- Fluency in the English language
Desired skills
- At least two years of practical experience with proven experience in software development and deployment (e.g. git, CI testing)
- Solid understanding of modern web technology and frameworks (Django, JavaScript, PHP)
- In-depth experience with translation of omics laboratory requirements to database solutions (LIMS development)
- Database management skills (PostgreSQL)
- Extensive experience with container solutions (Docker, Apptainer, Podman) and administration of linux servers
- Experience in set-up and administration of OMERO servers
- Experience with automated bioimage data analysis (Fiji, KNIME, CellProfiler, etc.)
- Experience in project management and timely delivery of tasks
- German language skills
