WHO WE ARE
DISCO Pharmaceuticals is a young spin-off company of the ETH Zurich based in Schlieren, Switzerland and Cologne, Germany. We leverage a novel mass spectrometric technology to, for the first time, understand the architecture of proteins on the surface of cancer. We combine methodologies in cell biology, biochemistry, mass spectrometry with computational tools to identify relevant protein communities on the surface of cancer cells. Our goal is to develop innovative cancer therapies using our unique insights into the protein surfaceome of cancer cells.
Research Scientist - Target Validation and Drug Discovery (m/w/d)
POSITION
We are looking for a talented Research Scientist to expand our Discovery Team in Cologne, Germany. The candidate will be working alongside highly skilled and motivated Research Scientists and Associates with the goal to validate novel targets for cancer therapies and support the preclinical drug discovery efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive target validation projects including hands on experimental work
- Collaborate closely within the team and with cross-functional groups, including Computational Biology, Operations and Technology Teams to support DISCO’s mission developing innovative cancer therapies
- Potential to lead and support a preclinical drug discovery program
- Prepare and present findings and progress updates at internal meetings
- Oversee and manage outsourcing activities with Contract Research Organizations
- Maintain an overview of trends and advancements in oncology-related antibody development
Qualification and experience
You hold a PhD and have an additional 3 years of experience as a research scientist in a biotech or academic environment. Cancer biology, ideally colorectal cancer, is your primary research focus. Experience in the development of antibody drug conjugates and/or project leadership is an advantage.
Competencies
- Strong background in cancer biology, preferably with a focus on colorectal cancer
- Extensive hands-on experience in cell culture techniques and cell biology methodologies, including flow cytometry, internalization and cytotoxicity assays, and lentiviral transduction
- Proficiency in standard molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques
- Experience with gene editing techniques, including nucleofection, is an advantage
- Familiarity with antibody-drug conjugates, including bioconjugation and linker-payload technologies, is a plus
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are an added advantage
