SCIENTIST AS GROUP LEAD FOR NEXT GENERATION SEQUENCING (m/f/d)
Full time - Mainz
We are looking for a group leader to support our Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) unit to start as soon as possible. Our NGS team develops and implements cutting edge, sequencing based technologies to guide cancer therapy and diagnosis in the clinic and has exceptional experience in Illumina-based sample processing and high-throughput sequencing. Our focus is on liquid biopsy where patient’s tumors are characterized noninvasively via cell free tumor DNA (ctDNA) circulating in the blood. We employ a diverse set of manual and automated techniques such as hybrid capture-seq, exome-seq, mRNA-seq, methylation sequencing, ATAC-seq in combination with Illumina or Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencing platforms. In their day-to-day work, our scientists profit from the well-connected, intra-disciplinary structure at TRON and closely collaborate and exchange with colleagues of different internal units or with external partners
Your tasks and responsibilities:

- Coordination and execution of exciting projects addressing the testing and evaluation of innovative NGS technologies/platforms/methods/protocols
- Coordination of large sample cohorts and sequencing projects
- Hands-on method development, from library preparation over sequencing to data interpretation and evaluation (“from sample in to sequence read out”)
- Compiling new SOPs for established methods
- Close and permanent exchange with the bioinformatics department of our institute
- Reporting and documentation of all projects and outcomes according to GSI standards
What you bring:
- A PhD degree in molecular biology or any related field
- A professional experience in NGS method development (whole genome, whole exome, RNA-Seq, targeted sequencing) is desirable
- A hands-on experience in aforemetioned techniques
- Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills
- A deep understanding of NGS processes and profound expertise with Illumina platforms (NovaSeq, NextSeq and MiSeq). experience with Oxford Nanopore sequencing is a plus
Any experience in research and development in the human setting, preferably oncology related or even in the field of liquid biopsy, would be advantageous. Experience in working with liquid handling robots (TECAN, Beckman Coulter, Qiagen) completes your profile.
Enthusiasm and curiosity for the diverse activities of our research institute as well as the ability to work in a team completes your profile.
We offer:
- A dynamic, innovative, flexible and creative research environment
- An open, collegial and cordial working atmosphere in a respectful corporate culture

At TRON, we share a common mission to develop innovative solutions for the immunotherapeutic treatment of cancer, infectious diseases and other serious diseases with high medicinal need for development.
TRON was founded in Mainz in 2010 and works in close cooperation with universities and hospitals as well as with regional, national and international research institutions and pharmaceutical companies.
As part of our team, you have the opportunity to be at the forefront of translational science with us.
If all this appeals to you, we look forward to getting to know you.
