The Max von Pettenkofer Institute of the LMU is the Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology with the longest tradition in Germany. Since its founding by Max von Pettenkofer in 1865, it has seen tremendous change and has always been a motor of this change in the infection sciences. Improving public health through a combination of internationally visible cutting-edge research, state-of-the-art diagnostics and expert advice for patient care, as well as training the next generation of physicians and scientists in infection medicine and research are central missions of our Institute.
Doctoral scientist/Ph.D. student (m/f/d) (part-time 65 %), available from September 2024
Activities and responsibilities
The project will be available in the scientific group of Prof. Dr. Sebastian Suerbaum and address questions related to the genomic adaptation of the bacterial gastric pathogen Helicobacter pylori to its individual human host, using a combination of State of the Art genomic analysis with diverse molecular experimental approaches.
The successful applicant will participate in the postgraduate program “Infection Research on Human Pathogens@MVPI”.
Qualification profile
We are seeking a highly motivated individual,
- who would like to perform his/her Ph.D. thesis in an interdisciplinary and international environment. We anticipate applicants with an excellent previous scientific training, very good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- with a completed undergraduate degree (Master or equivalent) in the life sciences, biomedical or natural sciences
- with experience in microbiology, safe handling of human pathogens, molecular biology or biochemical methods
