The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.
The Faculty of Medicine, Department of experimental Ophthalmology, research group of Prof. Dr. D. Pauly (

Doctoral Researcher/PhD The position is offered for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E13, 65 %).
Are you passionate about cutting-edge research in cellular biology and eager to make a significant impact on understanding retinal diseases?
We are offering an exciting PhD position focusing on the cellular and immunological functions of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. These cells are crucial for maintaining the health and functionality of the retina, including recycling photoreceptors and preserving the blood-retina barrier.
Our work aims to unravel the complex mechanisms of RPE cells through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genetics, molecular biology and protein interaction studies.
We are particularly focused on identifying novel pathways that contribute to retinal degeneration, with a special emphasis on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a disease affecting millions of elderly individuals globally.
