The position is available immediately, but not later than January 1st, 2025, in the Compound Management and Screening Center (COMAS).
The Compound Management and Screening Center (COMAS) is the central facility for early drug discovery within the Max Planck Society. COMAS hosts a 200k compound library as well as infrastructure for high-throughput screening. Projects are carried out in collaboration with different Max Planck research groups. Within a project for the morphological profiling of small molecules (“Cell Painting Assay”), a very large image data set of drug-treated cells (> 50,000,000 images) has been generated, which is continuously being expanded. You will be responsible for the analysis of the cell painting data set, including the design and programming of novel reporting tools. In addition, you will be supporting highly innovative HTS drug discovery projects by data management and data mining. The position is highly collaborative: You will be able to bring in your own interests within a stimulating academic environment.
Prerequisites for the job include a completed university degree (Ph.D.) in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, or a comparable qualification. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience with image analysis and the analysis of large datasets using Python and its data science stack (pandas, Dask). Experience in image analysis using deep learning methodologies would be desirable. Additional knowledge in the management of (chemical) databases (SQL, Oracle) and/or data pipelining tools like KNIME / Pipeline Pilot would be valuable.
Excellent English language skills are a must, German would be a plus. Candidates should be able to work independently in an interdisciplinary team and communicate well within the team as well with national and international collaboration partners.

Remuneration is paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund), taking account of your qualifications and professional experience.
