The Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University Heidelberg is looking for the Department of Cardiovascular Physiology as of 01.01.2025, initially for a limited period of 2 years, for a Biology / Bioscience doctoral (PhD) student (f/m/d) In the Department of Cardiovascular Physiology, we investigate the molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. heart failure) and train scientists and students.

Activities and responsibilities
- Investigation of the communication between endothelial cells and heart muscle cells in CRC1366
- Identification of new coding and non-coding RNA as potential, future therapeutic starting points
- Analysis of mouse models of human diseases with animal experiments
- Cell culture of heart muscle and endothelial cells, protein biochemical working methods (immunostaining, Western blots, IPs)
- Molecular biology work: DNA cloning, qPCR, transcriptome analyses, OMICs, bioinformatic analyses
Qualification profile
- Completed studies in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine or comparable courses of study
- FELASA certificate (an advantage, but not a prerequisite) and experience with animal experimentations
- Sound knowledge and practical experience of molecular, cell and biochemistry working methods
- Good English and computer skills, previous experience with the programming language “R” is an advantage
- High motivation and ability to work under pressure as well as reliability, willingness to take responsibility, willingness to learn, ability to work in a team
